This intensive min-course is designed to develop and strengthen skills in reading comprehension, literary analysis, and formal expression. All work is customized for each student based on age and skill level. Class lessons are devoted to refining the steps of targeted analysis and expression: extracting details from texts, framing evidence, generating arguments, and articulating clear, organized claims in formal oral and written contexts. In support of those lessons, students will be assigned reading and/or writing every night.
For each student, the grade earned in this summer course will be calculated into the student's final English grade from the school year, with the summer grade counting 35% and the school grade counting 65%. The new, revised grade will replace the school-year grade.
