In this summer certificate course, students will explore several facets of traditional English grammar, from parts of speech to parts of sentence, and from phrases to clauses. Grammar functions not just as a set of rules, but it also saves lives! (Let's eat Grandma >> Let's eat, Grandma!). Students will demonstrate mastery of the basic rules and then, through Socratic Seminar discussion, demonstrate how the levels work together to create art via purposeful syntax. By the end of the summer course, students will be able to use purposeful participles, inventive infinitives, gyrating gerunds, and creative clause constructions that catapult sentences into a whole new dimension! An added bonus--this course develops basic skills that can boost ACT and SAT scores to boot.
